The Rio Cristalino Lodge is situated near the geographical centre of Brazil, at the southern edge of the Amazonian rainforest. The lodge has a private reserve extending to more than 28,167 acres (44 square miles) - an area 1.3 times the size if Manhattan island (USA). The Cristalino Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN) is covered by primary and lush rainforests and provides a variety of natural habitats. The Cristalino forest reserve is the oldest RPPN in the north of the state of Mato Grosso and was established in 1997 by the Cristalino Lodge. An RPPN is a private area set aside in perpetuity for the purpose of conserving Brazil’s biological diversity. Setting up an RPPN is a voluntary act on the part of the owner of the property and the main beneficiaries are the natural environment of the area and future generations.
One of the main attractions here are the two well-built 50m high aluminum towers that offer extraordinary views over the surrounding forest, which stretches away to the far horizon. These towers stand next to one of the magnificent forest giants and the roomy platforms allow intimate looks at different levels in te canopy forest and its swirling flocks of multi-hued parrots, tanagers and toucans.
